LA JETS – Self Titled – (RCA) – 1976

what Frank is listening to #9 – LA JETS – Self Titled – (RCA) – 1976

Hmmm … it looks like its gonna be a hard rock band – long hair, sporting motifs.

Yup, I was right … though they have a female lead vocalist, Karen Lawrence.

It's all pretty much "paint by numbers" mid 70s wannabe stadium rock. Lawrence has a good voice though I like my girl vocalists rougher or sweeter . Here she sounds like Grace Slick from Jefferson Starship era … and that aint that good.

Lawrence ended up doing some solo work as well as backing vocals for Aerosmith, Slash, Jeff Beck etc, and she also wrote Barbara Streisand's hit "Prisoner". She is till active in music today in a "blues" band  … cue "Blues Hammer" from "Ghostworld":
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xKgSgg9OjKg&feature=related (is there anything worse than mainstream electric white blues ? … and they love it in Eastern Europe … all mainstream rock hacks end up in blues bands)

though she has tried "New Wave " also:

This is all dreadful – though the new wave track is punk kitsch.

Good tracks on this LP : none

And there is even a cover of Bob Dylan's " It take a lot to laugh, It takes a Train to Cry"

I'll be selling this quicker than a cat can lick it's ass.

The band picture says it all:

Sorry.
